Berkana Crystal and Elite Bohemia

Berkana Crystal fixtures are manufactured in the Czech Republic by Elite Bohemia, using Bohemian crystal. The relationship is family-connected and operationally integrated rather than arm’s length: Berkana Crystal develops the project requirements and design direction, coordinates custom work with the Czech design and manufacturing team, quotes and invoices North American clients, and stays with the project through installation. Made by hand

The process remains roughly ninety-nine percent handwork. Crystal is drawn and blown, cut, polished and inspected by hand; frames are finished and fixtures assembled, wired and tested in the same workshop. Elite Bohemia’s established production experience combined with Berkana Crystal’s dedication to excellence – is what stands behind each piece.

Why it matters for a project

Speed. The workshop is one place and the coordination is one point of contact, a fixture can be resized, recolored or recomposed for a specific ceiling without the design intent being lost in translation between vendors.

The family

One family, across the Atlantic

5 members of the Yakzhin family run Berkana Crystal's North American operation. There is no account manager between a project and the people whose name is on the company: an inquiry about a commission is answered by one of them.

Founder and Chief Executive

Founded Berkana Crystal's North American operation and sets its direction, including the working relationship with the Elite Bohemia workshop in the Czech Republic.

Yakov Yakzhin

President, Sales and Marketing

The first point of contact for a project. He works through requirements, scale and budget, coordinates custom design with the Czech workshop, and stays with a commission through installation.

Head of Finance

Responsible for Berkana Crystal's financial management and the commercial terms of a commission.

Responsible for hiring, training and the day-to-day running of the company.
